1. TRIĒRĒS: The hydrogen valley demonstrating applications in an integrated ecosystem in Greece

The TRIERES Valley targets a sustainable hydrogen market in Greece and Southeast Europe to promote a low-carbon economy. It plans to produce 2,410 tons of green hydrogen yearly for low-carbon energy and products, supporting the EU's hydrogen network. With a 10.5 million budget, 26 partners from five countries are involved, including significant Clean Hydrogen Partnership funding. The project demonstrates hydrogen's potential in industry, energy, transportation, and maritime sectors, synergizing with EU initiatives like EPHYRA, IRIS, REA, and REAH2. The project aims to develop a scalable and replicable model for deploying hydrogen technologies in various regions and projects, marking a major stride towards an eco-friendly, hydrogen-based future for Greece and the surrounding region.

2. Stara Zagora Sustainable Hydrogen Region: Bulgaria’s Net Zero Future

The Stara Zagora Regional Economic Development Agency (SZ REDA) has a vision to transform Stara Zagora into a green energy hub of Bulgaria, leveraging its resources and infrastructure for sustainable development. It is actively engaged in the establishment of collaborative clusters and projects, such as SynGreDit/EDIH ZAGORE, ZAHYR (ZAgora sustainable HYdrogen Region), and GH2M. SynGreDit is a pivotal project that concentrates on advancing mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and clean technologies within the energy and transportation sectors. ZAHYR seeks to enhance air quality, curtail CO2 emissions, and stimulate economic prosperity through the innovative use of hydrogen. GH2M is a comprehensive program designed to expedite the adoption of green hydrogen mobility across European Union regions. It focuses on the deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles, the strategic planning of refueling infrastructure, and the seamless integration of hydrogen mobility solutions.

3. H2PORTS: First application in Europe of hydrogen technologies for port handling equipment in real operative conditions

The H2Ports initiative is designed to make the Port of Valencia carbon-neutral by integrating hydrogen technology. It involves a consortium of industry leaders, public authorities, research institutions, and end-users, coordinated by Fundación Valenciaport and the Valencia Port Authority. The project timeline spans from January 2019 to December 2024, encompassing various phases of planning, development, and deployment. With nearly €800,000 from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, the project has developed essential hydrogen supply components, which include a buffer tank, a compressor for pressure regulation, a mobile high-pressure storage unit, and a dispenser panel for efficient hydrogen distribution. H2Ports aims to demonstrate the readiness of hydrogen technology to replace conventional alternatives and to pave the way for its incorporation into port operations.
